Terms of Service
Last Updated: October 17, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to the services provided by Barr Cleaners ("we," "our," or "us") at our storefront at 910 17th St NW #104, Washington, DC 20006, through our website (www.barrcleaners.com), and through our pickup and delivery services. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.
1. Agreement to These Terms
By leaving items with us, placing an order, scheduling a pickup, subscribing to a student plan, saving a card on file, or using our website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services. Some services have additional terms shown at checkout or sign-up; those terms apply together with these.
2. Your Responsibilities & Eligibility
- Accurate information: Give us correct and current contact details, addresses, access instructions, and payment information, and update us if they change. Charges and notices based on information you provided are your responsibility.
- Your items: Only give us items you own or are authorized to have cleaned, and tell us about stains, damage, or special care needs when you drop them off.
- Student plans: Student plans are for currently enrolled students. We may ask for proof of enrollment and may move an ineligible account to our standard pricing.
3. Our Services
We provide dry cleaning, laundry (wash and fold), pressing, alterations, and related garment care, available in store and through pickup and delivery. We may decline any item or order, including items we believe cannot be cleaned safely. Service availability, turnaround times, and service areas may change, and turnaround times are estimates, not guarantees.
4. Pricing, Estimates & Final Charges
Prices are shown on our website, at our storefront, or on your order and may change from time to time. Prices at the time your order is processed apply. Applicable DC sales tax is added to taxable services.
Estimates
Online and phone estimates are based on the items, quantities, and weights you describe. Your final charge is based on the items and weight we actually receive, and your receipt will itemize any differences.
Items not included in your order
If your bag or order contains items you did not list or pay for, we will clean them and charge our standard price for each additional item, or for the additional weight.
Items different from your order
If the items we receive differ from what you ordered or paid for (for example, a different garment type, size, fabric, or care requirement, or substantially more weight than estimated), we may charge the correct price for the items actually received. Where an item needs special care or its price differs significantly, we may contact you before processing it.
Online order minimums and fees
Online orders may be subject to a minimum order amount and a pickup and delivery service fee, both shown at checkout before you pay (currently a $50.00 minimum and a $5.99 service fee).
5. Pickup & Delivery
- Scheduling: Pickups and deliveries happen at the date, time window, and location agreed when you schedule. You must give us accurate address and access details (building, dorm, floor, front desk, or mailroom instructions).
- Be ready: Please have your items bagged, labeled with your name, and ready at the agreed time and place, or make sure someone is available to hand them over.
- Missed pickup: If we arrive at the agreed date, time, and location and cannot collect your order because you are unavailable, your items are not ready, or we cannot access the location, you will be charged our regular pickup fee (currently $5.99), and the pickup must be rescheduled.
- Missed delivery: If we cannot complete a delivery for the same reasons, we may charge the pickup fee again to re-deliver, or you can collect your order at our store.
- Unattended delivery: If you ask us to leave items at a front desk, mailroom, door, or other agreed spot, responsibility for the items passes to you once they are delivered there.
- Late changes: Please reschedule or cancel at least 24 hours before your pickup window. Changes with less notice may be treated as a missed pickup.
6. Student Laundry Plans
These terms apply to our monthly student laundry plans, in addition to the key terms shown when you subscribe.
Billing
- Your plan price is charged when you subscribe and then automatically every month on the same date you signed up, until you cancel. There is no proration for partial months.
- Each plan includes a monthly weight allowance. Pounds beyond your allowance are charged at your plan's posted overage rate, plus DC sales tax, and added to your next monthly charge.
- Unused allowance does not roll over to the next month and is not refunded or credited. Plan extras (such as complimentary dry-cleaned items or comforter discounts) follow the same rule and have no cash value.
- Unlimited plan: no extra-pound charges, subject to fair use: one Barr Cleaners bag per weekly pickup (up to 30 lbs), for the subscriber's own laundry only. Bulky items beyond the included bedding (such as rugs or sleeping bags) are priced separately. Repeated loads beyond fair use may be charged at standard rates or moved to a better-suited plan after we contact you.
Pickups
- Pickups take place on your scheduled pickup days. If you do not place your order or have your laundry ready for a scheduled pickup date, that pickup is forfeited and is not made up later, credited, or refunded.
- If we arrive at the agreed date and time and cannot meet you or collect your laundry, you will be charged our regular pickup fee (currently $5.99), even though pickup and delivery are normally included in your plan.
Breaks, summer, and pausing
If you will be away (summer break, winter break, study abroad, or any other absence), you must pause your plan before you leave using the management link we emailed you at sign-up. Pauses last at least 14 days, and billing resumes one month from the date you resume. If you leave without pausing, your plan stays active and you will be charged each month whether or not you send us any laundry. We do not refund or credit months charged before a pause.
Cancellation
To cancel, contact us at (202) 785-1155 or contact@barrcleaners.com. Cancellation takes effectimmediately: your saved card is removed and no further charges are made. There is no cancellation fee. Payments already made, including the current month, are not refunded, and any overage or balance already owed remains due.
Failed payments
If a monthly charge fails, we will notify you and retry. Pickups and deliveries are placed on hold, and we may hold laundry already in our care, until your balance is paid or your card is updated. If payment is not resolved, we may cancel your plan; any balance owed remains due.
Shared plans
If a plan is shared (for example, by roommates), the person who subscribed is responsible for all charges and for the plan's allowance being shared.
7. Office Card on File
When you register at barrcleaners.com/billing, you authorize us to store your card with Square and to charge it for services you order after each service is completed, including any adjustments described in Pricing, Estimates & Final Charges. Nothing is charged when you register. We email you an itemized receipt for every charge.
You are personally responsible for charges for orders placed under your name, even though you register with your employer or organization name. Your employer is not responsible for your charges unless it has agreed with us separately. You can withdraw your authorization at any time by contacting us; this does not cancel amounts owed for services already completed.
8. Payments, Failed Payments & Disputes
- Payments are processed by Square. By providing a card, you confirm you are authorized to use it.
- If a payment fails or a card is declined, we may hold completed orders until the balance is paid and may suspend pickups, deliveries, or plan benefits.
- If you believe a charge is wrong, please contact us within 30 days of the charge so we can review and fix it. We ask that you contact us before disputing a charge with your bank.
9. Garment Care & Our Responsibility
We take great care with every garment and follow the manufacturer's care label. Some outcomes are outside our control, and we are not responsible for:
- Damage caused by following the care label, or by an incorrect, missing, or unreadable care label.
- Normal wear, pre-existing damage, weak or aged fabric, hidden defects, color loss or bleeding, and shrinkage within the manufacturer's normal range.
- Buttons, beads, sequins, trims, belts, buckles, and other decorations that are not designed to withstand cleaning.
- Items left in pockets, including cash, jewelry, cards, keys, and electronics. Please empty all pockets before handing items to us.
- Stains that cannot be removed safely. Stain removal is attempted but not guaranteed.
Inspection and photos
We may inspect and photograph items when we receive them and when we return them, to record their condition, count, and any existing stains or damage. These records help us resolve questions quickly and fairly.
Alterations
Alterations are made to the measurements and instructions agreed at drop-off or fitting. We are not responsible for results based on measurements or instructions you provide. Please try on altered items when you receive them.
10. Missing or Damaged Items
- Please check your order when you receive it. Report missing items within 3 days and damage within 7 days of pickup or delivery, and keep the item and its packaging so we can inspect it.
- If we are responsible for losing or damaging an item, we will first try to repair, re-clean, or locate it. If that is not possible, we will compensate you based on the item's fair depreciated value as determined under the industry-standard Fair Claims Guide, up to a maximum of 10 times our charge for cleaning that item. We may ask for proof of purchase.
- Items with a value above that limit should be declared to us before cleaning so we can discuss special handling.
11. Unclaimed Items
Please collect or accept delivery of your items promptly. Items not collected within 90 days of the date they are ready, after we have tried to contact you, may be donated or otherwise disposed of, and any balance owed remains due.
12. Items We Do Not Accept
We do not accept items contaminated with hazardous chemicals, flammable substances, biohazards (such as blood or bodily fluids), mold, bed bugs, or other pests. We may refuse, return, or isolate such items, and any cleaning or handling fee may still apply.
13. Delays Beyond Our Control
We are not responsible for delays or missed pickups and deliveries caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as severe weather, building or campus access restrictions, holidays and closures, traffic emergencies, utility outages, or supplier problems. When this happens, we will reschedule as soon as reasonably possible and will not charge a missed pickup fee.
14. Refusing or Ending Service
We may refuse or stop providing service, cancel a plan, or remove a saved card if there are unpaid balances, repeated missed pickups, fraudulent or abusive activity, or abusive behavior toward our staff. Where practical, we will tell you first. Amounts owed for services already completed remain due.
15. AI Assistants & Communications
Our website chat, text messages, and phone line may be answered by AI assistants. Their answers are for general information and may occasionally be inaccurate; they are not binding offers. Prices, orders, and charges are confirmed by our staff and on your receipt. Text messaging is described in our Privacy Policy.
16. Promotions & Discount Codes
Discount codes and promotions are subject to the conditions stated with them. Unless stated otherwise, each code can be used once, cannot be combined with other offers, has no cash value, and may expire. We may end or change a promotion at any time, and we may cancel codes obtained or used improperly.
17. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to our services is limited to the amount described in Missing or Damaged Items, or, for other claims, the amount you paid for the service involved. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited under applicable law.
18. Resolving Disputes
If you have a problem, please contact us first; most issues can be resolved quickly. If we cannot resolve it together, either of us may bring a claim in the courts of the District of Columbia, including the Small Claims and Conciliation Branch of the D.C. Superior Court.
19. General Terms
- Changes: We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated Terms apply from the "Last Updated" date above; for student plans and saved cards, we will notify you by email of significant changes before they apply to you.
- Governing law: These Terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia.
- Severability: If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
